The Raleigh 1775 Collins Avenue, at 18th Street, South Beach (534 1775) Bus C, G, H, L. Open 5pm-midnight Mon-Thur, Sun; 5pm-1am Fri, Sat. Credit AmEx, DC, MC, V. Miami's best martinis are shaken not stirred in this elegant hotel bar. The Raleigh's bartenders take the art of mixing very seriously and would sooner engage 007 in mano-a-mano combat thanindulge his habit of substituting vodka for gin. Moe's South Beach 616 Collins Avenue, between Sixth & Seventh Streets, South Beach (538 7207) Bus C, H, K, W. Open 5pm-midnight daily. Credit AmEx, MC, V. Skip the so-so food at this trendy Mexican restaurant-cum-models'-hangout and stick to the bountiful margaritas and beautiful-peoplewatching. Mac's Club Deuce 222 14th Street, between Collins & Washington Avenues, South Beach (531 6200) Bus C, H, K, W. Open 8am-5am daily. No credit cards. Eclectic is far too tame a word to describe the bizarre mix of South Beach denizens who hunker down and liquor up at Club Deuce every night of the week. From transsexual hookers to nightclub glitterati to down-and-out locals to visiting celebrities like Quentin Tarantino, Club Deuce attracts the funkiest, motliest, coolest, scariest crowd of any bar on the South Florida nightlife landscape. And it's easy to see why: ideal mid-South Beach location; strong, reasonably priced drinks; comfortably shabby décor (spruced up with a little neon left over from a Miami Vice shoot); and possibly the hippest jukebox south of Manhattan. Tobacco Road 626 S Miami Avenue, at SW Seventh Street, Downtown (374 1198) Bus 6, 8. Open 11.30am-5am Mon-Fri; noon-5am Sat. Credit AmEx, DC, Disc, MC, V. Even when the stages are silent, Miami's premier blues club, former speakeasy and supposed holder of the city's first liquor license still qualifies as one of the city's finest drinking establishments. Flanigan's Laughing Loggerhead 2721 Bird Avenue, between SW 40th Street & 27th Avenue, Coconut Grove (446 1114) Bus 22, 27, 42. Open 11.30am-5am daily. Credit AmEx, Disc, MC, V. A Grove institution, the Loggerhead stocks some 200 bottled beers and serves up a delectable blackened dolphin sandwich (among other basic but succulent selections such as ribs and juicy, two-fisted hamburgers). A fishing motif prevails, with aged wooden walls plastered with Hemingway- esque photos of anglers and their prodigious catches. Monty's 2550 S Bayshore Drive, at Aviation Avenue, Coconut Grove (858 1431) Bus 48. Open 11.30am-4pm, 5-11pm, Mon-Thur, Sun; 11.30-4pm, 5pm-midnight, Fri, Sat. Credit AmEx, DC, Disc, MC, V. An outdoor raw (seafood) bar located next to a marina, Monty's has been popular with Groveites for decades. Thatch-roofed, open-walled, mini tiki huts surround a stage where tasteful reggae and calypso bands do their best to persuade the floral-print-shirted minions to dance. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
